Our students continue to face an undercurrent of social emotional challenges resulting from isolation caused from extended periods of virtual learning. This session will highlight instructional supports that address SEL, promote mathematical sense-making, while building relationships and community.
Let our students' mathematical mistakes take center stage, explore instructional practices for reflecting on mistakes while creating a positive math culture, and learn teaching strategies that support how to make student mistakes into predictable and productive learning experiences.
Equitable mathematics instruction will be highlighted through a task utilizing technology (mathematical action and conveyance) to engage students in exploring, conjecturing, and justifying their own theories about division. Student data connected to equitable mathematics instruction will be shared.
Extended response is integral to the Ilinois Assessment of Readiness. This session offers strategies to all grade levels for writing in mathematics classrooms. Students will articulate their math ideas & undergo a transformation in cross-curricular practices. Gone are the days of student eye-rolls when we ask them to write in math!
