What do students mean when they talk about geometric shapes? Are they saying what we think they’re saying? We present guidelines for implementing a “Guess My Shape” task that leverages student talk and develops students’ geometric thinking by focusing on properties and attributes of shapes.
The book, Five Practices for Orchestrating Productive Whole-Class Discussions, highlights the importance and complexity of discussions. This session focuses on selecting strategies for discussions by exploring a framework that provides criteria to make selecting strategies purposeful.
